From three continents, the real story of Dr Kivett in Sonoma County

As the old song says, "I'd like to get to know you." For that to happen, it's important that you get to know me and what the staff and institution of Beauty and Health Medical Center of California represent. So first, a bit of my background.

Diplomas from Stanford, the University of Arizona, National Institutes of Health and UCLA were followed by teaching and work for nearly a year in Venezuela and three years in Saudi Arabia. Then from 1985 to 1988 I treated Sonoma County folks as a Board certified dermatologist, mostly doing skin cancer and cosmetic surgery, supported by previous fellowship training. During those years in Santa Rosa, my wife and I did some soul-searching about patients with major deformities whom I had left untreated overseas. In 1988, I went back to train in how to treat them.

In 1996, after eight surgical training years of 120+ hour work weeks and mulling over several good position offers elsewhere, we returned home to beautiful Sonoma County. I became Board Certified in Plastic Surgery and Facial Plastic Surgery. Three years of general surgery training, nearly four years of plastic surgery fellowships and one year of a hand/wrist surgery fellowship allowed me to realize my dream of overseas charity work. I have since traveled to Asia and South America to repair post-traumatic, post-infectious and birth defects in children and adults.

In Santa Rosa I enjoy a four hospital multi-subspecialty practice of about 80% cosmetic and 20% reconstructive surgery. Rather than exclude interesting reconstructive cases due to funding issues, we accept patients with various insurance plans. This dual mix provides several benefits. Knowledge of one type of patient nurtures and improves results in the other type of patient. Patients in each group are grateful for different reasons, something very satisfying to me. A variety of case types thus ensures continuing intellectual challenges here in Sonoma County. This also allows me to maintain close professional relationships with a number of generalist and specialist physicians in a number of cities, including Santa Rosa, Windsor, Healdsburg, Cloverdale, Sebastopol, Rohnert Park, Petaluma, Oakmont, Glen Ellen, and Sonoma. This extends beyond as well to Napa, Marin, Lake, Mendocino, Humboldt and Del Norte counties.

I am honored to have been voted into the California Society of Plastic Surgeons, dedicated to promoting the highest standards of patient care and ethics in matters related to plastic surgery, as well as the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, the American College of Surgeons and the Sonoma County Medical Association. I will continue to work and study my field in order to continue to deserve those accolades.

Early in 2006, my co-authored 69 page surgical textbook chapter on the management of skin cancer was published in the 8,000 page "Bible of plastic surgery" which is published every 15 years as the standard for our field. It was edited by UC San Francisco's former Chief of Plastic Surgery and President of our national Plastic Surgery Educational Foundation, Dr. Steve Mathes.

Because of an increasing need in Sonoma County for multiple subspecialty services in one setting, we continue to add new staff at various professional levels. Our patient can feel confident that we will help her/him reach her/his goals without needing to know ahead of time the fine points of the fields of facial plastic surgery, plastic surgery and dermatology. We will educate you about those here. As our motto states, "We teach...we treat...we care." And we mean it, too.

Come let us provide for you a positive educational experience in improving your appearance and wellness!

The Ripple Effect -- Help Someone Else Out, Too

Drop a stone into a still pond. Rings of water radiate outward. The rest of the water and the pondís edges are affected, even if in a tiny way. So too, are we mutually touched by what happens to one another. Those distant from us geographically and/or culturally benefit from what we do right here at home.

This is how we see it. Our patients and clients...

Philosophy and Observations

Since safety is our top priority, with high quality results immediately next in line to that, combining operations together is good only if several factors are in place...
